We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Applied Scientist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge ML/AI solutions, leveraging advanced techniques to provide unique and differentiated value to our diverse set of global customers, including entertainment fans, industry professionals, advertising partners, and licensing clients. You will work with stakeholders from across the company, on a wide variety of projects, such as building multi-faceted customer behavioral models to power our digital advertising and personalization efforts, designing our next generation fraud detection models, and uncovering unique and scalable ways to improve the lives of our customers through advanced, science-led efforts. You will play a critical role is defining our science roadmap, while staying at the forefront of ML/AI research by adapting new methodologies to IMDb's unique challenges. Your work will involve implementing solutions that adhere to Amazon's software engineering best practices, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and maintainability. You'll contribute to the strategic direction of IMDb's scientific initiatives, aligning technical capabilities with business objectives.

Key job responsibilities
As a member of our team, you'll lead complex ML projects from start to finish, handling ambiguity and scale with ease. Your responsibilities will include conducting A/B experiments, performing statistical analyses, and extracting insights from large datasets to inform decision-making. You'll develop and maintain robust, scalable ML systems while staying at the forefront of AI/ML advancements, integrating cutting-edge technologies into IMDb's products. Additionally, you'll contribute to technical papers, represent IMDb at science conferences, and play a crucial role in mentoring junior team members. This position combines hands-on technical work with leadership, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the team.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of building models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to non-experts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in professional software development
- Have publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience in the entertainment or media industry.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
