DESCRIPTION

The Workplace Health and Safety Team is looking for a Director to be a leader of leaders in the Amazon Extra Large (AMXL) operational Business Unit to drive safety initiatives and business partnerships. This leader will lead the successful implementation of a comprehensive safety strategy to enable and promote safe and efficient workplace practices for thousands of employees across the AMXL Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Organization.

Workplace health and safety subject matter expertise (SME) and knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and other standards are crucial. This leader needs to maintain agility and flexibility to ensure programs are put in place and adopted by Operations and WHS ensuring we are always doing what is right for the safety of our associates, contractors, and anyone coming onto our sites.


Key job responsibilities
•. Management of safety strategy, delivering solutions that address operational safety and health issues across AMXL.
•. Ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations and World Wide WHS team and other stakeholders; influencing change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.
•. Create clear, concise, and consistent communications. This individual will help teach and train their Business Unit Senior Operations and Senior Regional WHS Leaders in safety leadership and Amazon WHS policies and assist their regional teams in incorporating WHS standards at their sites.
• Excellent knowledge of WHS program to include safety and ergonomics with the ability to demonstrate this expertise when working with Operations.
•. Responsible for leading a team of WHS Regional Managers in their Business Unit. This individual must create and execute leadership development plans for their team. Their WHS team must have expectations communicated and receive frequent and appropriate feedback. This individual must ensure they are executing to the core competencies of an Amazon WHS professional and demonstrates the ability to judge and assess WHS talent and select appropriate bench strength to current and future business needs.
•. Partner with leadership across all levels to provide direction, guidance and correction to teams and processes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in EHS, business, engineering, or similar field
• 10+ years of relevant experience in safety, compliance, and/or regulatory affairs, including experience developing and implementing safety strategies and programs
• Experience hiring, developing and leading large diverse teams
• Ability to travel 50-75% of the time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor and/or graduate degree in the field of safety, engineering, leadership etc.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• Experience with complex problem solving and analysis using statistical methods, financial modeling, and network optimization modeling
• Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, data retrieval/mining skills using data warehouse systems.
• Ability to quickly earn and maintain trust
• Ability to lead and manage a high-performance team and prior experience with people management skills, including communication, leadership delegation, motivation, training, and performance feedback
• Strong project management skills
• Ability to manage a large number and variety of mission-critical projects, working independently and often in an ambiguous environment
• Proven ability to influence the decisions of senior business leaders and stakeholders through logical reasoning, relevant data, and the presentation of alternative solutions Strategic thinker who can express their conviction, while staying flexible to new ideas or better solutions

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $149,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $288,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
