Sr. Acoustic Design Engineer, DC Design Engineering
DESCRIPTION
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Do you dream of working in a role where your talent with Sound, Acoustics and next-generation data center design can be merged? Do you want to expand your current knowledge of building systems while providing input from your previous experience? Have you ever wondered what it is like to be able to influence construction on a global scale? YES! Then keep reading….
In this role you will influence all aspects of acoustics and sound mitigation for mechanical design, construction, operations, and maintenance for our global fleet of data centers. You will work with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document the various sound mitigation features that our facilities require, using both prescriptive and performance-based design approaches. As an Owner, you will strive to ensure the acoustic features of our buildings comply with local ordinances and will work with our due diligence teams to identify, measure, study, and report on the local considerations around our data center sites. We expect you to contribute your expertise to the continual improvement of our acoustical design standards.
Primary responsibilities will be to perform and oversee project-related work, such as building sound modeling, paper writing, and document review, including coordination with public officials to establish basic site infrastructure requirements. The ability to coordinate acoustical mitigation requirements, supporting utilities, and equipment locations, and to provide detailed construction specifications for all sound and acoustics-related trades will be expected. You will typically be responsible for the preparation of prescriptive designs for building acoustics and mitigation systems. In some cases, you will be expected to prepare or approve performance-based design elements as needed to support our goals. You will review all design disciplines to ensure they meet the site acoustic requirements described in our design standards. In some cases, you will oversee and review this work and in other cases you will perform the work yourself.
As the team’s subject matter expert, you will ensure that contractors have the information they need to build our data centers the way we expect them to, and that our operations teams are well equipped to operate and maintain them as needed to meet our goals. As part of this role you will work with internal and external stakeholders, including design, construction, commissioning, operations, vendors, and other service providers, as well as local building officials. You will be part of a global team, and you will be an integral part of our work to change the world through technology.
Key job responsibilities
• Driving improvement of acoustic design standards and project approaches across the organization.
• Work with third party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress to ensure they meet established acoustic design standards, local code requirements, and any other requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
• Be responsible for providing high quality acoustic engineering advice on a wide variety of projects globally while working with global engineering teams to achieve alignment of designs and design objectives.
• Coordinating with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries.
• Be responsible for construction documents, code compliance, design and installation standards, water supply evaluation and assessment, testing, inspections, and submittal review. Meet with AHJs as needed to ensure approval of acoustical features.
• This position will require up to 25% travel.
