Millions of Ring devices around the world are used by our customers to help make neighborhoods safer. Device Registry services that support core features for millions of Ring devices. These services are used by other applications such as the Ring Mobile App and enable our customers to manage and customize various device settings based upon their preferences. Examples of device settings managed by our services include volume levels, motion detection sensitivity, video recording length, and shared user access. You will get to work closely with software, firmware, and product teams across Ring and Amazon, and actively participate in defining and implementing new device setting models. This is a great opportunity to build highly secure, scalable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems using AWS technologies while influencing the development of novel products and features for Ring customers.

As a Software Development Manager for the Ring device health services platform, you will lead a team of software engineers in the development of backend cloud services that manage device existence/settings and configuration data. You will be challenged to build systems that are highly scalable, available, and secure as Ring continues to grow. You will drive the technical direction and feature roadmap of this platform as Ring develops new devices, product features, and supports integrations with other Amazon devices and data sources. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate distributed system best practices and influence the development of revolutionary products and features for Ring customers.


Key job responsibilities
- Manage and own the device registry services platform for the Ring organization
- Review business requirements, provide design feedback, and influence technical strategy to deliver new Ring devices and features
- Work across teams with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive consensus and remove bottlenecks
- Deal with ambiguity in novel situations by making appropriate tradeoffs for both short and long-term success
- Guide and encourage team design discussions to architect, scale, and streamline the processing of billions of daily device state changes
- Set high standards within the team by demonstrating engineering best practices in operational excellence, security, and test automation
- Define technical roadmap for the team and effectively prioritize tasks
- Establish software development practices to organize and lead the team in continuously delivering results
- Mentor, coach, and provide constructive feedback to team members to support their career growth
- Participate in interview and hiring events to grow the team and company

About the team
We are a growing team that manages the platform for Ring device-related data. Our goal is to meet the high data availability and security expectations required by Ring devices and features to work as expected without issue.

The team owns critical services that many other teams and services depend upon. We place a strong emphasis on maintaining high standards, reusability, and long-term thinking to ensure our solutions are easily extensible and scale. Our team uses a variety of programming languages including GoLang, Java, Scala, Python, and JavaScript.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
