Are you a future thinker with a belief that the use of emerging technology can inspire inclusivity? The Inclusive eXperiences Technology (IXT) organization within Amazon drives the evolution toward our goal of bridging emergent technology together with a culture of inclusion.

IXT is seeking an experienced thought leader for the role of Principal, Technology and Society to leverage technological advancements in generative AI and ML to drive inclusion and raise awareness. This role provides thought leadership and technical subject matter expertise to the IXT team, and leads a broader vision and strategy toward internal and external engagement efforts.

This key leader will operate cross-functionally, leveraging their subject matter knowledge and relationships to grow internal and external partners and stakeholders. The key mission of the position is to earn trust for IXT Inclusive Tech strategy, communicate Amazon’s use of AI for good in communities unlock additional impact for partners and communities by listening, learning the customer needs, informing, sharing stories and working together to solve problems. This role will also inform and produce inclusive tech messaging and program content and grow an internal group of volunteer technologists to advance IXT’s inclusive tech community investment strategy. This role will include a combination of high visibility engagements and behind the scenes support.


Key job responsibilities
• Represent the organization at related AI and ML convenings and coalition building spaces
• Curate ready-made Inclusive Tech examples, content and collateral to support relationships, activations and main stage opportunities
• Drive strategy on the rapidly evolving landscape of AI/ML technologies, policies, and societal impacts, tracking developments and taking a forward-looking approach to anticipating and addressing emerging challenges
• Deliver written and oral presentations, representing the Inclusive Tech vision, strategy and work
• Secure relationships with internal and external experts who serve as subject matter experts, ambassadors, speakers and advisors to the Inclusive Tech external engagement strategy
• Develop and execute a relationship strategy with strategically selected external technology organizations and leaders
• Generate partner leads at scale across a number of audience segments
• Utilize persona journeys to work backwards from the customer’s needs and priorities
• Provide reports and updates relevant tech related developments in policy, innovations, leadership, and initiatives
• Use metric to capture insights and to contribute to the one IXT story
• Provide proactive, engaging and frequent communication with stakeholders and partners

Travel required including occasional international travel.


About the team
The Inclusive eXperiences Technology External Strategies team prepares Amazon to respond to external DEI issues impacting our employees, customers, and their communities. We serve as the advance team peering around corners on behalf of the organization and serve as ambassadors of Amazon’s DEI efforts with external and internal DEI related partners.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years of experience working as data scientist, data researcher, software engineer, AI communications, tech journalism or other similar fields in technology
• 3+ years managing strong relationships while driving successful campaigns that create solutions
• 3+ years of experience working in or with large tech organization
• Experience in public speaking (technical audiences), media engagement, and coalition building
• Experience in AI technologies, policies, industry standards and societal implications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to rapidly changing environments and demands 
• Has relationships with AI/ML or other tech organizations and leaders
• Ability to effectively engage, educate and influence a wide range of stakeholders from internal teams to external partners and the broader public
• Strong understanding of the intersections of AI and ML technology, fairness, responsibility and inclusion

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $147,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $330,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
