Amazon's overarching vision for privacy is to make it easy for businesses to handle personal data in a consistent way that meets both Amazon’s own privacy bar and relevant external regulations without sacrificing innovation. To do that, we will provide business units with solutions (software, policies, education, etc.) to support them in managing their privacy and data handling responsibilities. Each business unit will retain primary responsibility for the data they collect and use while they integrate with the centralized solutions that we provide.Our team is a key enabler of that wider vision. We build the foundational products that will enable our retail and digital business units to deliver world leading privacy to our customers. Today, we provide automation for our customer’s key privacy needs - the right for a copy of their data, the right to be forgotten. We will build on these solutions to ensure business, compliance and technology teams across the company know exactly where they have personal data, how they are performing against Amazon’s privacy bar and what actions they can take to deliver the greatest improvement.

To deliver on this vision, we will create a suite of foundational products that detect personal data, evaluate our handling of it against Amazon’s privacy policies and remediate any identified gaps. We will also codify privacy best practices into software frameworks and developer tools to continuously raise the bar for software built by Amazon teams. As Amazon continues to launch and acquire new businesses, our products will automatically detect and onboard the applications and underlying data sources. As new storage and runtime platforms are adopted, our products will evolve to support them. We will use the data and insights we gain from measuring our our company-wide privacy posture to drive the creation of software building blocks that bake-in privacy by default. We will then extend our detection, evaluation and remediation mechanisms to drive the adoption of these solutions, creating a truly closed loop mechanism.

As a software development engineer on our team, you will apply the appropriate technologies and best practices to autonomously solve difficult problems. You will work with customers, stakeholders, and peers to refine your ideas into pragmatic solutions with high operational excellence. Our team is responsible for developing and running Machine Learning solutions for Compliance, developing ML Fabric (a collection of frameworks, libraries and automation for simplified and standardized Machine Learning Engineering). Amazon’s retail business operates in 58 countries, 36 business groups and 350 million products. Besides selling its own products, Amazon offers a marketplace for 3rd party sellers to add their own product listings. We strive to always keep a focus on our customers which makes safety and compliance our top priority. The compliance business aspect is not only regulated by laws from all the countries we operate in, but also touches multiple points in our fulfillment chain: from seller catalog listings, to associates working in fulfillment centers or delivering the products and all the way to the customer receiving their order and reviewing their purchased goods. It’s basically a collection of shared services for product classification and document and image classification, validation, and data extraction.

As part of the Product Safety and Compliance organization, we play a key role ensuring the correct classification and compliance of the products we sell. We leverage technology and artificial intelligence to scale what used to be an ever growing manual operational department handling hundreds of thousand documents each month. Within PARS, our engineers design and build best in class compliance and safety software systems that enable us to scale manual operations effectively, automating risk identification, investigations, and document checks.
