Job summary
Join the world class safety culture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and be part of supporting the largest cloud computing infrastructure team as a Regional Safety Engineer. As the Regional Safety Engineer you will own the Health and Safety function of your respective area. You will be responsible for improving the health and safety of our data centers, advancing safety culture, and protecting our employees. Each day you will work with our data center engineers, the people who make the cloud go. They are working with electrical switching equipment, large scale air handling mechanical systems, and critical IT gear.

You will work closely with experts in security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to further the global health safety program. You will partner with employees as well as contractors to achieve health and safety goals and improve our already strong safety culture. As AWS increases data capacity you will partner with construction managers to ensure risks are identified and mitigated prior to live operations. You will work in a fast-paced environment where our operations are rapidly changing, advocating safe changes in the face of new infrastructure, new tools, and new products/processes.

This role is for an experienced Safety Specialist or Safety Engineer. The role's prime responsibility will be to support the safety operations for Data Centers.
You will be part of a regional and global team that works with internal and external partners to maintain and enhance the safety of operations. Close collaboration with onsite physical security, vendors, compliance officers, risk management, and fire/life safety systems is required. Additionally, you will work with employees and contractors to achieve specific safety objectives.

You must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and/or public speaking forums. You will advise, instruct and train company personnel on safety policies and procedures, as well as assist the teams in incorporating and improving our safety standards at their sites.

You will report to the Regional Safety Manager – Europe and be responsible for continuing to enhance the safety of operations and construction. Some domestic and international travel is required.

Key job responsibilities
•Implement safety standards, policies and best practices.

•Provision and Management of Training: Induction, Refresher and Manual Handling Training as required, develop and deliver training/presentations to support achievement of H&S objectives. Manage the training database for all employees and ensure all H&S training requirements are fulfilled.

•Collaborate with outside vendors (General Contractors, sub-contractors, Emergency Services) as they relate to operations and construction.

•Ensure compliance and implementation of global safety programs and local regulatory legislation.

•Develop and review safety plans for on-site emergencies, special events and other unique safety situations.

•Perform safety data analysis and create bench marking.

•Ensure safety record keeping and provide accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.

•Consult and work with compliance teams on safety regulations interpretations and investigations.

•Develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to risks and prevent injury.

•Adapt to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, strategy and deadlines.

•Able to work as part of a team and provide safety support to regions outside of local cluster when required.

•Other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• University or Engineering degree in Environmental Sicence/ Health and Safety/Risk Analysis
• Minimum 3+ years of field experience in Safety.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A good knowledge of the French Labour code, environmental code and ATEX regulation
• Experience / knowledge of implementing safety programs, processes and procedural documentation.
• Considerable knowledge of local safety and health regulatory laws and practices of investigations and workplace safety.
• Data center, manufacturing, construction, or similar industry safety experience with mix of full time employees and 3rd party contractors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site leaders.
• High ethical standards with proven ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information; excellent judgment, discretion and diplomacy.
• Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization.
• Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
• Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability
