Senior Hardware Development Engineer, Project Kuiper OISL

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
The OISL Prototyping & Integration team is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer specializing in execution of complex Test, Development, and Data Processing needs to support mechanical, electrical and optical hardware builds. This role requires hands-on expertise in both mechanical and electrical domains, enabling the seamless execution of hardware automation, instrumentation, and post-processing.

Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Hardware Development Engineer, you will be embedded within our design and development teams, working closely with hardware engineers, technicians, and test engineers to accelerate LRU hardware development.
A day in the life
In this role, you will be expected to lead a variety of tasks, for example: developing hardware tests, data processing, and operational support. You will work closely with Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams to develop functional prototype hardware of complex electro/mechanical systems. You will drive technical innovation and exhibit consistent high-level of quality and speed.
This position requires strong conceptual development and the proficient use, and implementation, of various testing and automation processes within a prototype dev environment.

The OISL Prototyping and Integration Team accelerates hardware development via manufacturing and integration of new-to-world products.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years experience in a hardware and SW development, test lab, or hands-on engineering environment.
- Experience operating test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, thermal chambers, load cells, and data acquisition systems.
- Experience with programming or scripting for test automation (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
- Experience with prototyping and implementation
- Experience in development and test of satellite bus systems
- Experience with integrated aerospace/avionics assemblies
- Experience joint hardware/firmware development; partnering with software engineers to bring-up and test new hardware designs
- Familiarity with vacuum systems, high-voltage testing, and environmental testing (thermal, vibration, EMI).
- Experience with creating Design of Experiments
- Familiarity with sensors, transducers, and data acquisition
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities while ensuring high-quality execution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex concepts and designs to colleagues across disciplines

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
