Sr. Automation Solutions Designer, Fulfillment Technology & Robotics (FTR) - Mechatronics Sustainable Packaging (MSP)
DESCRIPTION
Are you inspired by invention? Is problem solving through teamwork in your DNA? Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture? Answer yes to these questions and you’ll fit right in here in the Automation Solutions team. We are a smart team of doers that work passionately to apply advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers’ experiences in ways we can’t imagine yet. We invent new improvements every day.
The Automation Solutions team develops innovations that increase the efficiency of our fulfillment operations. Our products are deployed across the Amazon Fulfillment Network, automating material flow to reduce operational costs, increase throughput, reduce packaging, and enable consistent quality. Our products are integrated into broader solutions that sort, pack, and label items and packages globally.
The Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging organization is seeking a new member to join a dynamic team that provides leadership for concept development, architecture, and design of robotics systems and industrial equipment.
Key job responsibilities
- Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems
- Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale
- Break down and frame problems using con-ops, use cases, structural/functional decomposition, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams
- Build quantitative models and analyses (Excel, FlexSIM, internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across the integrated systems of systems
- Develop system concepts, cost estimates, risk assessments, and proposal documents that define the content and capabilities of automation solutions
- Generating and rendering conceptual solutions for customer problems which may have no previous solution by using various CAD tools (2D and 3D).
- Facilitate concept brainstorming and customer needs gathering exercises with little to no support from leaders
A day in the life
An average day may include a mix of collaboration meetings to understand customer needs, reviews to obtain feedback on concepts, writing of technical white papers, and spending time designing in CAD to design layouts or 3D concepts for potential solutions.
