Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Key job responsibilities
This position requires strong conceptual development and the proficient use, and implementation, of various manufacturing processes within a prototyping environment. The desired candidate will also help to develop strategies that can be applied to scale products in an efficient manner.

A day in the life
In this effort, as a CNC Prototyping Engineer, you will work closely with Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Research teams to develop functional prototypes of complex electro/mechanical systems. You will drive technical innovation of prototyping processes and exhibit consistent high-level of quality and speed. The desired candidate will have experience in a fast paced machining environment and will have the ability to respond quickly to interruptions and requests to support test teams.

About the team
The Prototyping and Integration Team accelerates hardware development via manufacturing and integration of new-to-world products. Those learnings are then directly applied to scale aerospace manufacturing processes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with CAD/CAM software for creating CNC programs.
- Experience with G-code programming and CNC machine setup and operation.
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
- Experience with various CNC machining processes (milling, turning, etc.).
- Experience with a range of materials (metals, plastics, composites) used in prototyping.
- Experience with reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience with problem-solving skills for optimizing CNC programs and troubleshooting issues.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Programming experience with CAM software such as Siemens NX, Hypermill, or Esprit for generating CNC code and toolpaths.
- Hands-on machining knowledge and expertise in operating mill-turn and Swiss lathe, machines and Heidenhain and Fanuc controller 5-axis milling machines.
- Proficiency in utilizing tool inventory systems or tool management software for efficient tool data management and organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $189,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
