A day in the life
As part of the leadership team, you will work on developing the systems and strategies that will be used by Amazon worldwide and you will regularly interact with senior leadership. You will work with the business teams globally to define organization roadmaps, drive execution of technology projects, drive operational excellence initiatives and manage technology operations. You will manage and mentor a high-performing engineering team of 5-10 towards achieving a focused mission. You’ll work in fast paced ever changing environment and will lead not only at the strategic level, but also tactically day-to-day by diving deeply into business and technical domains.
You are expected to have an established background in building highly scalable systems and system design, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about building good software as well as making that software achieve its operational goals. Experience with building and operating web-based applications and/or web services-based applications, especially at large scale, will be very applicable and helpful.

Amazon Freight (www.freight.amazon.com) is building the technology that enables shippers to ship their own freight using the same capabilities Amazon uses to reliably deliver millions of packages every day to its customers – on time, with low cost.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
