Are you looking for a position where you can be on the forefront of setting policy and tax positions in a high growth business? Amazon is looking for a proactive, high energy, take ownership, tax specialist based in Mexico City, Mexico to focus on supporting our Amazon Web Services (AWS) business. You would will be fully immersed within the AWS business team and support current and future AWS offerings, expansions, restructurings, operating guidelines, and day to day questions related to the AWS business in Mexico. Depending on bandwidth and workloads, you would also be involved in global supply chain and other projects.
You will be directly liaising with various business teams within the company with an aim of gaining a deep understanding of the business vision and model in order to develop comprehensive tax solutions in support of the business, develop tax requirements that clearly articulate such solutions, and drive the implementation of the tax requirements. You will primarily focus on direct tax and indirect tax matters in Mexico, and also have a base knowledge of other tax issues (stamp tax, property tax, etc.) and tax audit experience and how those can impact the business solution being articulated. You will also work closely with other members of the global tax department to communicate current and future business plans, obtain cross functional tax subject matter input, and ensure coordination of cross functional tax solutions.
This position is not directly involved in day to day compliance but is responsible for delivering the planning, real time coordination, and communication of various tax-related projects as well as collaborating with business partner contacts. This includes ensuring the appropriate level of documentation is created and maintained to support analyses performed, decisions made and conclusions reached for purposes of reporting and compliance.

AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers including public sector.

Key job responsibilities
Act as Mexico tax lead for the AWS business line and projects, providing quality and timely guidance.
Providing direct and indirect tax subject matter expertise on various AWS business initiatives including scoping of impact on existing transaction tax calculation processes and systems.
Working with and providing guidance to the various AWS organizations including Business Development, Finance, Marketing, Legal, Professional Services, and various product groups.
Provide guidance and help manage global supply chain projects from an indirect tax perspective.
Providing end-to-end tax requirements (tax structuring, tax treatment of all aspects from invoicing, characterization of services, taxability through to implementation) for AWS projects and business initiatives from a Mexican tax law perspective.
Actively participating in projects throughout their lifecycle – from planning, research on advanced cloud services taxation implications and Mexican supply chain modeling through to delivery to business and billing teams (including communication of tax implications to AWS management).
Overall responsibility for collaboration of AWS initiatives amongst tax department to ensure reporting and compliance are complete.
Develop and maintain knowledge of Mexico taxation and current developments, as well as familiarity with US and global international tax law framework.
Monitor industry positions relevant to Amazon’s international business.
Writing technical and non-technical tax research memos including detailed tax requirements to be used by various business partners throughout the company.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 4+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, within technical and business settings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of maintaining and operating transaction tax calculation software (e.g. Vertex) experience
- Experience with VBA, Python, SQL, or other database language
