Collection Strategy Lead, Amazon Credito MX

Amazon Crédito Mexico (MX) is looking for a Collection Strategy lead to own (a) Collection Strategy; (b) Collection Policy (part 2 of 3 of the Amazon Crédito Policy); (c) Collection Channels’ Decisions; and (d) Requirements for Collection Decision Models (e.g., internal/external data required; data initial calibration/weight; variable definition and formulas; metrics dashboard to monitor results; alarms; etc).

In this role, they will partner with the Amazon Crédito Product Management team who owns the Amazon Crédito Customer Experience (CX); with the Amazon Crédito Applied Sciences (Tech) team who owns building the Amazon Crédito Decision Models; and with the Amazon Crédito Finance team who owns Capital Management and FP&A to deliver the best Consumer Lending offer in MX and the profits to fuel Amazon MX growth. This role involves regularly monitoring the collection channels’ performance, models’ performance, adjusting the models’ parameters to optimize performance, and identifying new variables/data to be incorporated to capture and anticipate macro-economic trends.

Key job responsibilities
Collection Strategy / Policy
- Influence Amazon Crédito Collection Customer Experience (CX) and business goals
- Own the Collection strategy to deliver Amazon Crédito CX and business goals, describing how the Collection, rules and policies will deliver the proposed CX and business goals
- Own recommendation for Collection rules and policies; and partner with the Underwriting and Fraud/Abuse prevention leads on recommendation for Fraud/Abuse prevention and Collection rules and policies
- Define collection micro-segments and guidance to assign customers to each micro-segment and regularly review micro-segment definition and their characteristics
- Define collection channels and guidance on which channel to use for each collection micro-segment as customers evolve in the collection journey (from 1 dpd to write-off) to reduce friction and optimize performance
- Define formula to calculate provisions, aligned with the country regulation and best practices
- Educate Amazon Leadership Team (LT) and Amazon Crédito team on MX Consumer Lending Collection trends/nuances vs other geos.

Collection Decision Models
- Provide requirements for the Applied Science (tech) team to build the Collection decision models, including definition of each channel and identification of internal and external data.
- Support the development and implementation of Collection models
- Validate and sign-off the decision models before going live, ensuring the models’ performance is aligned with overall risk strategy (appetite, rules and policies)
- Regularly update decision models (e.g., updating parameters, bringing new customer and macro-economic data, defining new variables) to meet Amazon Crédito Credit Risk Management goals (e.g., NPL, accuracy, unnecessary declines, compliant with regulatory requirements, etc) for each credit risk micro-segment
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Collection and Fraud/Abuse prevention process managers to ensure that back-end and flow requirements are consistent with Collection and collections strategy
- Collaborate with Applied Science team to improve model performance (e.g., accuracy, speed, availability, etc)
- Collaborate with other Amazon Crédito teams to reach other Amazon Crédito goals (e.g., approval rates, number of observations by customer risk segment)

Portfolio management
- Monitor and analyze the performance of the Collection models, making adjustments on collection models, and recommending updates on credit risk policies/rules, as necessary
- Collaborate with Product Management, and Finance Teams to monitor overall performance of credit portfolio and Key Risk Indicators and help implement changes in appetite, policies and processes as required
- Influence the definition and prioritizations of key actions and paths needed to adjust credit portfolio performance to meet business and risk management goals (e.g., actions to meet desired NPL levels)
- Ensure compliance with regulation
- Co-lead WCRs (Weekly Credit Results), MCRs (Monthly Credit Results) and QCRs (Quarterly Credit Results), providing updates to and driving necessary collection decisions to achieve Amazon Crédito goals

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Proven 8+ years of experience working in Consumer Credit Collection or similar role, with 4+ years in a MX Consumer Credit business owned/operated by a MX store
- Proven understanding of consumer credit products and industry regulations in Mexico
- Proficiency in MS Office and statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, Python)
- Bachelor´s Degree or certificate of completion of studies required
- English and Spanish Proficiency, both written and spoken

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Proven experience working in Consumer Credit Underwriting or Fraud/Abuse Prevention
- Strong knowledge of statistical modeling techniques and data analysis
- Strong modeling skills – experience with machine learning techniques is a plus
- Clear communication, with demonstrated examples of building trust and credibility with C-level executives with different backgrounds
- Ability to influence decision and drive results in a complex and diverse environment
- Curious to learn from others and experiment different approaches
