Amazon is hiring Category Leader to improve the experience for our African customers. Africa represents a large and growing consumer market positioned for growth spurred by the increasing productive potential of its young population, rapid adoption of technology and evolving consumer behaviour. This role will allow you to work across various internal and external teams to evaluate the customer landscapes, and invent innovative approaches to solve ambiguous problems. Key job responsibilities
The Category Leader will be responsible for designing and executing our selection plans as well as facilitating cross-functional development activities, projects and process improvements. With your team, you will identify selection opportunities based on customer data, relationships with vendors and general retail developments. Working with your team, you will acquire this selection through contracting with vendors, on boarding them to our systems, and sourcing the items to ensure low prices, availability and fast delivery to the customers. You will own the profitability of your business, while guarding our mission to be Earth’s most customer-centric company.

The position requires a leader who can work autonomously in a fast paced, highly demanding and ambiguous environment. The successful candidate would possess great business judgment, with a track record of strong project delivery, commercial negotiations and relationship management along with deep analytical acumen. Additionally, this position involves working with multiple stakeholders (marketing, marketplace, legal, supply chain, operations among others).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 10+ years sales and/or vendor management experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• MBA or Master’s degree preferred
• Experience working with diverse geographical teams
• Experience leading cross-functional projects
• Track record of delivering results and an ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
• Strong business judgment with a track record of successful negotiations and overall relationship management.
• Proven analytical thinking, project management skills, and exceptional organizational skills are essential.
• Ability to think strategically and tactically, with attention to detail.
• Tenacity to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment is essential for success.
