The AWS Core Networking Organization is looking for a Software Development Manager to join our Backbone Enterprise, and Regional Engineering (BERE) team. In this role you will lead a team of high skill Software, System and Applied Scientist engineers to deliver a network modeling environment and business workflow. You will partner and lead working group with teams from various discipline (Networking, Software, Finance, Business development, etc). You will develop strong customer business knowledges to elaborate the long term strategy for your team that address critical challenges for internal and external customers at large scale.

AWS Global Connectivity and Network Availability (GCNA) is the backbone that connects the global AWS network. Focused on controlling the internet traffic that allows users to access their information and applications regardless of where they are in the world. A day in the life
Engineers in the Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering (BERE) organization have a wide range of responsibilities: we work with internal partners to develop and implement the next gen platforms along with the tooling ecosystems to support with these platforms driving efficiency and scalability through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity. As our network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blue print at our scale allowing our engineers to develop solutions to the complex challenges that we face daily. We encourage durable solutions that look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a cost, performance, and reliability perspective.

Our team develops a network modeling environment and business workflow that provides the required visibility and control of traffic across the network to design, scale and operate the AWS backbone.

 Elaborate team roadmap and strategic vision working with the team and partners.

 Lead working group with partners from various domain and discipline to develop data model and software integration.

 Investigate business challenges with our customers and elaborate tactical and strategic plan.

 Drive high skill software engineering team to ensure proper plan execution and individual career development.

 Work in a 24x7 team on call rotation, with the ability to drive into the workplace for critical events/needs.


About the team
Within AWS Networking, the Backbone Enterprise, and Regional Engineering (BERE) organization is responsible for the design, implementation, and operations of a wide array of networking infrastructure that provide global connectivity between all AWS Regions and edge locations. BERE provides the massive scale required to support our AWS customers and internal services, via a network that grows by 70% annually. In addition, they have teams that are responsible for the design and operation of our global corporate office and data center network, allowing tens of thousands of Amazonians to perform their daily tasks in support of our customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 6+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
