At the Amazon Development Center in Dresden, Germany, we develop and operate Live Migration, which enables seamless migration of EC2 instances between physical hosts, helping our customers maintain their applications' availability and resilience.

We are looking for a highly motivated Software Development Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work with a team of experienced engineers to build, maintain, and operate the Live Migration service for EC2. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing new features and enhancements to our service, as well as diagnosing and resolving issues that arise in our production environment.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, implement, and test new features and enhancements to our Live Migration control plane service in EC2.
- Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to define requirements, priorities, and timelines for feature development and bug fixes.
- Diagnose and resolve issues that arise in our production environment, ensuring that our service is always available and performing optimally.
- Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to other engineers to ensure that our codebase is maintainable, scalable, and efficient.
- Continuously improve our control plane service by identifying opportunities for automation, optimization, and performance tuning.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in software development, with a focus on distributed systems at scale, networking, or infrastructure software.
- Experience operating and supporting production cloud services, including on-call responsibilities.
- Strong programming skills in at least one high-level programming language such as Java, Kotlin, C++, or others.
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line tools.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Proficient in at least one scripting language such as Python, Ruby, or similar.
