Seller Services is one of the fastest growing businesses within Amazon. The “Selling on Amazon” service enables third-party sellers to sell their products via Amazon and reach tens of millions of potential shoppers.

Japan Seller Services is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to join the BI team. The core focus of this role is to leverage data and BI capabilities to directly support the goals and initiatives of the Japan Seller Services business team. Stakeholders include product/program managers, sales managers and leadership team. The ideal candidate will be excited about pulling complex data from large scale database using SQL, identifying and developing metrics that are relevant to the focus of programs, automating metrics tracking on Quicksight or Excel, diving deep into data to fix business issues and uncover growth opportunities, estimating business impact for the new program using proxy data, and running statistical models. The ideal candidate will own good business acumen and enjoy influencing business decisions while improving operational efficiency to drive higher productivity.

The individual must be able to:
· Manage request intake independently and set right priorities based on the priorities of the entire organization.
· Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver in a most efficient and effective way.
· Interact and communicate with stakeholders including senior leadership from multiple project areas effectively.
· Translate complex or ambiguous business problem statements into analysis requirements.
· Proactively identify problems with significant business impact and help business partners create actionable priorities.
· Derive business insights from analysis and make recommendations to the business
· Extract complex data from a large-scale Redshift database using efficient queries.
· Develop metrics tracking and automate scheduled report refresh (daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly).
· Innovate solutions that are robust, extensible and scalable.
· Ensure accuracy and reliability of the data while aligning on the globally standardized definition as needed.
· Demonstrate technical expertise (SQL, Python, Statistics, AWS technologies) to efficiently deliver BI solutions.
· Effectively communicate with Business Intelligence team in US/India on the technical blockers and requirements.
· Make technical trade-offs for long term/short-term needs
· Read business documents to understand the business priorities
· Write a document or paragraphs to outline the details of analysis, insights and recommendations


Key job responsibilities
The individual will own 2+ business domains and work closely with business partners (Product/Program/Sales Managers) in the relevant domains as well as tech partners (BIEs, Data Engineers, Data Scientist) under the following 4 pillars.

[Data Visualization] Build and maintain metrics tables in Quicksight/Excel for weekly/monthly/quarterly business reviews with leadership team. Build and maintain metrics dive deep dashboard for product/program managers and account managers. This involves alignment with business stakeholders in Japan and tech stakeholders in US/India.

[Analytics] Deliver insights and recommendations to support decision making of the business. This covers opportunity/risk/impact analysis of the new programs/product features and investigation of the data quality/customer facing issues. You may use statistical models and deliver 1-4 pager word document or contribute to the part of business document.

[Ad-hoc Data Pull] Write SQL and pull complex data for the short/long term planning and a quick decision making. This requires good judgement on what should be supported by the BIE and self-managed by the data requester.

[Operational Efficiency] Improve productivity of the BI team by working with Business Intelligence Engineers and Data Engineers in the US/India teams to roll out centrally driven initiatives (metrics standardization, self-service tool adoption, infrastructure optimization) and innovate mechanisms locally (e.g. data user training).


A day in the life
The individual will work with 5-10 business partners in Japan and 3-5 tech partners in US/India. She/he will constantly be taking in requests on data visualization, analytics, ad-hoc data pull from business partners through internal ticketing system (SIM) and prioritizing them making sure to allocate sufficient time for the important work and meet the agreed timeline. Our Redshift database is owned by the central BI team in US and she/he will work closely with tech partners in US/India for the database level issue resolution or optimization. Central BI team in US also own global tech initiatives and she/he will work together with them to discuss topics such as metric definition/data source standardization. She/he will be allocating 10% of the time on the routine work.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of professional or military experience
- 5+ years of SQL experience
- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
