Manpreet joined Amazon as a temporary Pick Assistant in 2015. She soon became a full-time employee, and as she continued to learn and develop her skills she was promoted into leadership roles. In 2019, she helped launch one of Canada’s largest fulfilment centres, and in April 2020 she was promoted to Operations Manager.

When asked about her thoughts on diversity at Amazon, Manpreet replies, “Amazon understands the positive impacts of having a diverse workforce. As a woman leader in Operations, I’ve had the opportunity to work with great mentors and leaders who helped me develop my potential.” She continues, “ Every individual has a chance to grow based on their potential and Amazon invests resources to eliminate unconscious bias and break stereotypes.”

Reflecting more on the culture at Amazon, she adds, “Amazon has a ‘Help Me/Help You’ culture, which provides support to help you navigate challenges. Asking for help is strongly encouraged and there are abundant resources for employees.” She continues, “Failures are considered learning opportunities, and lessons learned are used to build sustainable and scalable solutions. This makes Amazon a unique place to work.”

Manpreet enjoys her work at Amazon because it challenges her to stretch herself. “In all my years at Amazon, I’ve faced and overcome challenges – I didn’t know I was capable of this. I really enjoy the fast-paced environment that requires quick decision making. Setting the bar high and raising it consistently gives me a sense of accomplishment and motivates me to work even harder.”

When asked to share the best advice she's received from a mentor, manager, or colleague, she replies, “When I was new to my Area Manager role, I tried to do everything myself. I was overwhelming myself and underutilizing my team. I was advised to practice the art of delegation and to support my team by removing barriers. This led to a huge change and significantly contributed to the success I achieved as a leader in different capacities and departments.” Manpreet offers advice to future candidates, “Be ready to work hard, think outside the box, and be curious.”

When not at work, Manpreet enjoys spending time with her nine-year-old son. They watch cartoons together, build with Legos, and take long walks. Manpreet says that his endless stories brighten her day.
