Prior to joining Amazon, Jason worked at a video game company in Los Angeles.  He built a great career there, and enjoyed the work that he was doing, but he was missing a personal connection to its products. “So when I got the chance to work for a company that I’ve been a huge fan of as a customer, it was a no-brainer,” he says. “And I honestly had no idea what I was getting into, and that was also appealing.”

Since joining Amazon, Jason has learned a lot, and “unlearned” even more. In the past, he was always focused on frugality and controlling costs. But at Amazon, “there’s plenty of proof that the next new business can come from anywhere, and you don’t want to get in the way of that,” he says. Therefore, he has spent more time advocating and enabling the teams that he supports – ensuring that they can keep up with whatever comes up, while putting structure in place to evaluate their investments along the way.  

Jason enjoys working at Amazon because of the people and culture. “Amazon hires all sorts of people who bring unique and diverse perspectives and approaches to everything they do,” he says. “Impressive people who don’t just memorize and relate to our Leadership Principles, but embody them; using them as tools to navigate often uncharted territory. Passionate people who, despite the challenges, are each motivated to break through and make a difference. It’s been inspiring to work these Amazonians, and hopefully be one of them, too.”

Unlike his previous jobs, where he felt confined in his roles, Jason has been able to explore new opportunities at Amazon. “It’s not just expected here, but encouraged,” he says.
