DESCRIPTION

Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a talented lawyer and a Company Secretary based in Bengaluru/Gurugram to support Amazon Web Services, the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering cloud computing and IT services in such areas as compute, storage, databases, internet of things, machine learning, quantum technologies, robotics, as well as providing training, digital transformation consulting and more. The position is based in Gurugram and is for a fixed term of 3 years.

Key job responsibilities
The Associate Corporate Counsel will play a pivotal role in supporting AWS's operations in India, seamlessly blending legal expertise with company secretarial duties. Acting as both legal counsel and company secretary, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with sales, marketing, product, and cross-functional teams to provide strategic legal guidance. They will also be responsible for maintaining proper corporate governance, overseeing regulatory filings, managing board meetings and resolutions, and ensuring compliance with various Indian statutes including the Companies Act and other applicable laws.

This role requires a strong grasp of both corporate law and company secretarial duties in India, helping AWS effectively manage its legal and compliance obligations.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, have strong written and oral communication skills, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- LL.B. (undergraduate law degree) from a recognized Indian university
- Associate Membership (ACS) with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), along with a current valid membership
- The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of diverse legal experience, which may include but is not limited to:
- Corporate law practice in a reputable law firm or company legal department
- Handling a variety of legal matters including contract management, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and general corporate advisory
- Demonstrating primary and autonomous responsibility in legal tasks such as reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various commercial agreements and corporate documents
- Experience in interpreting and applying relevant Indian laws and regulations in a business context

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- In house experience at a technology company.
- Familiarity with IT/technology licensing, outsourcing and services agreements.
- Understanding of intellectual property, competition and privacy issues.
