Software Engineering Manager (Elastic Kubernetes Service), AWS EKS
DESCRIPTION
Amazon’s Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) is looking for a Software Engineering Leader to head up EKS Auto and AWS Karpenter team. We have an ambitious road-map that seeks to redefine how our customers build their applications and run them at scale.
Amazon EKS allow our customers to use Kubernetes at scale without the undifferentiated heavy lifting required to manage Kubernetes. Our mission is to accelerate the adoption of AWS by providing the best possible experience for customers using Kubernetes. We are growing fast and we are expanding our team to help build additional features for our customers. This is a great time to join a growing team and help influence what we can do for customers who are adopting Kubernetes as a cornerstone in their AWS strategy.
As a leader of the EKS Auto and AWS Karpenter team you will be responsible for building and owning core services responsible to EKS cluster management. You will work with the Open Source community to help shape the product. You will interface with other AWS services and help drive combined roadmap. You will own staffing and managing the engineering team, product development, setting the team culture, best practices, and organizational planning. Successful candidate will be able to deal with ambiguity and will need to think big.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the potential of cloud computing, and about building simple and elegant software solutions and customer-centric products. This leader has thrived and succeeded in delivering high quality technology products/services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The candidate is a leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly and compellingly and who understands how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong team. AWS in general, and this business in particular, operates at very large scale and on critical workloads, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is key. AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
