Robotics and Actuation Development Senior Manager, Applied Automation
DESCRIPTION
The Amazon Robotics team is seeking technical leaders to spearhead the development of elegant and innovative robotic and actuation solutions for the Amazon Fulfillment network.
The Amazon Robotics team builds high-performance, real-time robotic systems that can perceive, learn, and act intelligently alongside humans - at Amazon scale. Our mission is to enable robots to interact safely, efficiently, and fluently with the clutter and uncertainty of real-world fulfillment centers. We hire and develop subject matter experts in robotics.
We are seeking hands-on Hardware Development Manager to spearhead a growing team to define and implement creative architectural solutions to robotic motion and actuation problems in hardware. You will be deep in design, build, and test cycles. A successful candidate has excellent technical depth, great communication skills, and a drive to achieve results in a team environment.

Key job responsibilities
Develop and deliver hardware solutions to robotic motion and actuation problems for the Amazon Fulfillment network.
- You will spearhead and grow an integrated technical team capable of delivering novel hardware and controls solutions at scale.
- You will prioritize being a great people manager: motivating, rewarding, and coaching your diverse team is the most important part of this role. You will recruit and retain top talent.
- You will keep your technical skills current to provide technical leadership throughout the development, deployment, and support life cycle for hardware and controls products.
- You will regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.
- You will set a vision for your team and create product roadmaps. Help your team sort out technical and product requirements and priorities. You will use project management skills to deliver product roadmap items and other cross-team projects.
- You will work with Supply Chain and Quality organizations, as well as vendors, to ensure smooth production and deliver automation solutions at scale.

About the team
This position will manage a team of hardware and controls engineers primarily located near Boston, MA, USA. This team is part of Amazon Robotics' Applied Automation team, which has sites across Boston MA, Seattle WA, and Toronto ON.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate degree in Robotics or Mechanical Engineering.
-10+ years of technical and management experience in development of robotics and automation hardware and controls.
- Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
- 5+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
-5+ years of experience working with robotic system developers and component suppliers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-A portfolio of work demonstrating creative and elegant robotics and automation solutions implemented in hardware.
-Experience developing technical leaders in robotics and automation.
- Strong network of connections at robotics vendors, suppliers, integrators, and fabricators

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $161,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $279,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
