Amazon Robotics seeks a Senior SDE to lead development machine learning and computer vision based software technologies. This role provides ample opportunity to influence, innovate and shape the next generation of robotics tech. You will have opportunities to work collaboratively with other software and hardware teams in Amazon Robotics and across Amazon. Joining this team enables you to be on the forefront of new product development and technology that improves our systems and the experience for our customers around the globe.
Key job responsibilities
As a Sr. SDE in the Scanless Technologies organization at Amazon Robotics, you will:
- Develop computer vision applications that run at the edge and in the cloud. You will leverage state of the art CV techniques at the edge and AWS ML technologies
- Partner with other engaged, friendly, principles-first thinking oriented engineers to understand customer use cases and implement core engineering capabilities for Amazon's enormous fulfillment network.
- Operate across multiple layers of the stack to design and build fault-tolerant production software that optimize our fleet of fulfillment infrastructure and robots.
- Participate in software architecture and design reviews.
- Develop tools to test and analyze complex systems, including those deployed in production at customer sites, and dig into critical pieces of distributed systems like logging, tracing, metrics.
- Hire and mentor other engineers on the team.

Amazon Robotics is developing state of the art technologies that will forever change the way products and packages are identified, all by using Computer Vision, Machine Learning. We envision a time when manual item identification (typically barcode scanning) is a vestige of the past. You will be a technical guide for the development of new components and cross-functional programs requiring the work of multiple engineers and scientists. Partner with Applied Scientists to prototype and develop Machine Learning applications that deliver on this vision.

About the team
As a software development engineer (SDE) on the Amazon Robotics Scanless Technologies team, you will be a technical guide and contributor to an exciting, diverse team that is responsible for developing and deploying full-stack software systems using AWS that are scalable, reliable and performant, is obsessed over its customers at its core and its solutions impact thousands of users for every minute of their working day! AI (Machine Learning, Data Science, etc.) is at the core of everything this team builds. Our solutions are deployed at the Edge and in the Cloud at scale!
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Self-motivated and able to solve problems singularly
- Strong communication skills, ability to work well in a team environment
- Strong desire to develop skills in Machine Learning and Computer Vision
- Decisive with limited information and able to learn rapidly.
