Policy Manager, Digital & AI, Digital Affairs & AI, AWS Public Policy EMEA
DESCRIPTION
This is a fixed term contract role for 6 months.
The Policy Manager will join an experienced, dynamic team and be able to enhance AWS’s advocacy before policymakers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers.
The AWS Public Policy EMEA team works with a wide range of national, local, and supranational policymakers, industry organizations, and non-governmental organizations across the digital policy space, including data governance, data protection, cybersecurity, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
The Policy Manager will contribute to AWS's policy advocacy efforts on digital policy issues including on artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and cloud across EMEA, working in close coordination with the Global Public Policy team. They will build and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers at national and EU levels, industry organizations, academia, and civil society, leveraging external consultancies and industry association memberships.
Key job responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of EU Affairs for AWS Public Policy, the Policy Manager will:
- Develop and execute advocacy strategies aligned with public policy priorities on behalf of AWS and our customers in EMEA, with a focus on artificial intelligence and intellectual property
- Assess, anticipate, and timely report on public policy matters within their portfolio
- Oversee external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives, while facilitating and staffing meetings between AWS executives and key policy stakeholders
- Work collaboratively and transparently with multiple AWS and Amazon teams
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Master Degree or Advanced Degree in a field relevant to the role (Law, Economics, Political Science, Finance)
- Relevant public policy and advocacy experience in the field of regulatory and public affairs in the digital sector
- A keen understanding of EU politics and policy, EU lawmaking processes and government relations.
- English oral and written fluency
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Highly effective oral and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at the highest corporate and political levels
• Strong knowledge and work experience with intellectual property and copyrights, (e.g.: media and other creative sectors, including government agencies dealing with these topics)
• Excellent written communication skills in English, and proven ability to convey complex arguments in writing
• Ability to dive deep on policy – navigating complex proposals, assessing business implications, prioritising risks/opportunities, translating policy for business audiences, and crafting policy positions
• Ability to design and run effective influencing campaigns that translate technical policy issues into salient messages that resonate with decision-makers
• Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others. Strong judgement/decision-making skills, and political acumen
• Ability to drive and execute independently, and to lead small interdisciplinary campaign teams
• Ability to use experience and data to assess and recommend the best course of action, even in an ambiguous situation
• Proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organisation and cultures
• Ability to work at pace, prioritising competing demands
