This position on the investments, mergers & acquisitions accounting team will be responsible for supporting accounting-related pre- and post-close activities of mergers and acquisitions (M&A),and Amazon’s equity investments (including equity warrants) for our financial reporting and tax compliance purposes. This position will be responsible for representing accounting throughout the M&A process, working with cross-department business leaders and functional accounting teams to ensure a seamless integration of the acquisition or investment into the company’s financial statements. This position is also expected to support month-end close processes (including intangible assets and goodwill), and monthly/quarterly reporting for SEC filings and management reviews. This position will have a strong ownership, and an ability to identify and implement process improvements that drive team efficiency and scalability. The role will also require partnering and collaborating with key partners within accounting, finance, legal, and the business.

Key job responsibilities
• Conduct M&A and investment due diligence for proposed transactions
• Partner with Corporate Development to communicate key accounting issues identified
• Proactively identify, research, consult, and draft technical memorandum on significant transactions
• Identify, manage, and execute purchase accounting and certain other implementation and integration activities
• Participate in and in certain cases manage the execution of valuation exercises, including partnering with 3rd party valuation firms on the preparation of fair value reports
• Drive communication across diverse areas and leadership levels building trust. Bring clarity to complex and ambiguous situations
• Manage risks across disparate business functions, driving mitigation and resolution
• Build relationships across multiple teams within Amazon to foster a collaborative and productive working relationship
• Identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities to reduce manual effort and increase controllership
• Supporting month-end accounting activities, including preparation/review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and SEC deliverables.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- CPA
- Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency
- Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification
- Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients
- Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions
- Experience with valuations of business entities, intangible assets, purchase price allocations, goodwill, long lived asset impairment, financial analysis, or research

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $85,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $179,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
