RME-WHS Project manager, High Risk Operations (HRO)
DESCRIPTION
The Regional Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Manager, EU RME will provide direct support and partnership to one or more of the Europe Reliability & Maintenance Engineering pillars, which may include Europe Customer Fulfilment (EUCF), Amazon Logistics (EUAMZL), Amazon Transportation Services (EUATS) and Global Specialty Fulfilment & Retail (EUGSF). In addition to supporting an RME pillars from an execution standpoint, this role will be responsible for engaging and partnering with technical Subject Matter Experts (SME) within WHS, RME and other functions (e.g. Operations, Ops Construction, Ops Engineering, Worldwide Engineering, Research & Development, Suppliers, Amazon Robotics and Procurement) to continually improve network WHS standards and procedures. The individual supports the field in program execution but also supports the WHS RME Regional ManagerWHS Program Manager who is responsible for developing RME related WHS programs (e.g. WHS procedures, processes, best practices, training and network capital projects.

Key job responsibilities
• Develop a deep working relationship and partnership with RME (Reliability and Maintenance Engineering) and WHS stakeholders for the pillar(s) that you directly support.
• Establish incident investigation, escalation and reporting structures within your area of responsibility to ensure timely notification and collaboration on root cause analysis.
• Ensure risks of maintenance operations are assessed and the reduction measures are implemented, policies and requirements are effectively communicated, sites have the ability to ask questions to gain further clarification and establish methods for tracking completion.
• Review KPIs, incidents to determine which require WHS Alerts or RME Safety Network Actions and drive the site RME and WHS teams to develop content through the WHS communications process.
• Partner with High Risk Operations team, equipment OEMs, Ops Engineering, RME, Operations, Global Risk Team etc. on equipment related incidents where design or retrofits may be necessary across multiple business units.
• Support RME Leadership in improving technician engagement to have strong ownership and bias for action in escalating safety issues, task creep, stop work authority and peer review related safety programs.

Each day, we work backwards starting with our customer needs and partner with stakeholders to identify and mitigate high-risk safety hazards, ensuring maintenance operations remain safe. We analyse incidents, review KPIs, and conduct root cause investigations to drive continuous improvement. Through training, policy development, and engagement initiatives, we influence safe behaviours and strengthen Amazon’s safety culture. Our work ensures that risk reduction is proactive, comprehensive, and always evolving.
About the team
RME WHS is part of the High-Risk Operations (HRO) family, working under the mantra: “Safe to Operate. Operate Safely.” We enable and equip our partners to manage the highest safety risks to Amazon Associates, particularly those arising from operating and maintaining machinery and equipment, as well as managing contractors supporting our operations.
As the RME WHS Team, we focus on risks in RME activities but take an end-to-end approach, ensuring all risk reduction opportunities are pursued in line with the risk control hierarchy. Beyond compliance, we influence safe behaviours by analysing human factors and fostering a positive safety culture through engagement initiatives. A core part of our role is examining KPIs, incidents, and events, conducting root cause analysis to ensure lessons learned are adopted. Where applicable, we use these insights to shape safety interventions and proactively mitigate risks. We support RME teams by maintaining a robust suite of policies, standards, procedures, and specifications, enacted through competent, trained individuals and continuously improved through targeted bar-raising programs. Through collaboration, proactive risk management, and a commitment to high safety standards, the RME WHS Team plays a critical role in ensuring Amazon’s operational safety remains world-class.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of qualification in line with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF)
- Completed Degree in safety, industrial or quality engineering, safety or health related science, Reliability & Maintenance, Engineering (RME) or Business Administration discipline.
- Experience in Safety, RME, Engineering, Quality or Operations.
- Experience in program implementation or overseeing authorized workers in the following programs: Fall Hazard Control, Electrical Safe Work, Hazardous Energy Control (LOTO), Conveyors and Machine Safeguarding, Confined Spaces, Hot Work and System Impairment, Fire Protection Systems, PIT and aerial lifts, Cranes, Hoisting and Rigging.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree.
- Have or working towards ASP, CSP, CIH, NEBOSH, or CHMM certification.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and the ISO 45000 standard.
- Experiencing in deploying automated reporting systems (e.g. Gensuite).
- Six Sigma Belt or Green Belt certified.
- Analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.
- Experience in technical, standards or program writing
