As a Regional Safety Engineer, you will lead the Health and Safety function of your assigned area. You will be responsible for advancing safety culture and improving the health and safety of our data centers, by protecting our employees through safety incident prevention, investigation, and mitigation. Each day you will work with our data center community, the people who make the cloud go. They are working with electrical switching equipment, large scale air handling and mechanical systems, and critical IT gear. You will work closely with experts in security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to further the global health safety program. You will use data to evaluate trends related to leading and lagging indicators to help your customer focus on safety, our organization's number one tenet. You will partner with employees as well as contractors to achieve health and safety goals and improve our already strong safety culture. As AWS increases data capacity you will partner with construction managers to ensure risks are identified and mitigated prior to live operations. You will work in a fast-paced environment where our operations are rapidly changing, advocating safe changes in the face of new infrastructure, new tools, and new products/processes.

The Regional Safety Engineer must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and/or public speaking forums. This individual must instruct and train company personnel on safety policies, assisting the teams in incorporating our safety standards at their respective site(s). Additionally, you will work with employees and contractors to achieve specific safety objectives. This role will report to the Regional Safety Manager and be responsible for continuing to enhance the safety of operations. Additionally, you will work closely with construction builds. This position may require some domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities:


- Implement safety standards, policies and practices including but not limited to Safety Management systems, Training, Risk assessments and Safety regulatory agencies legislation
- Collaborate with other groups within Amazon (Facilities Managers, Human Resources, Hardware Operations, etc.) and outside vendors (General Contractors, Sub-contractors, Emergency Services, Underwriters, etc.) as they relate to operations.
- Ensure compliance and enforcement of global safety programs and local regulatory legislation.
- Develop safety plans for on-site emergencies, special events and other unique safety situations to assure proper evacuation procedures are followed.
- Perform data analysis
- Ensure safety record keeping and data integrity and provides Amazon with accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
- Consult and partner with legal for safety regulations interpretations and investigations.
- Develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury.
- Partner with other Amazon affiliates to identify safety deficiencies and develop customized policies/procedures to gain compliance with regulations internal and external to Amazon.com and its affiliates.
- Adapt to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, strategy and deadlines

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum four year college degree in a safety and health or related field.
- 5 or more years of field safety experience in construction, manufacturing, or similar industry.
- 2 or more years of experience designing, revising and implementing safety processes and procedural documentation.
- 1 or more years of Alberta Provincial Occupational Safety Act and Regulation compliance experience, and knowledge of Federal safety and health regulatory laws (Canadian Labor Code) and practices of investigations and workplace safety.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience supporting technical groups such as IT, Engineering, and Operations.
- Experience supporting physical plant operations including electrical and mechanical systems - CSP or CIH certification.
- Working knowledge of the CSA Z462 Standard, applicable region specific federal, state, and local health and safety regulations (Provincial and Federal standards) and experience providing safety guidance for those working on medium voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with detailed hazard recognition and preparation of written assessments/proactive remedies.
- High ethical standards with proven ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information; excellent judgment, discretion and diplomacy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving skills and self-driven.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and aptitude for learning additional software tools.
