The Amazon Robotics (AR) Operations organization oversees the manufacturing of high-quality robotics and gets the right materials to the right place at the right time to enable our automated solutions. It’s a fast-paced operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally, and is driven by data and performance indicators. We are seeking a talented and motivated Manufacturing Test Support Engineer with a proven track record of implementing best in class test techniques and processes within a complex manufacturing environment. This role will report to the Manager of Sustaining Test Development and is a member of the Robotics Manufacturing Technical Operations team. This position will primarily focus on continuous improvement, root cause investigation, & support for manufacturing test systems. You will work closely with engineering, production, test engineers, and external vendors to deliver and support the highest quality products with the lowest cost.
Key job responsibilities
* Actively support and foster a culture of inclusion.
* Provide triage and investigation of novel manufacturing test issues on the production lines.
* Analyze RMA units to determine failure root cause and corrective actions.
* Drive continuous improvements in both test and repair processes.
* Deploy new or duplicate systems to support test, calibration, and component upgrades.
* Develop and execute a test system maintenance strategy, including backups, quick installs, system upgrades, patching, and disaster recovery.
* Assist with editing and validating test system work instructions.
* Develop training plans for test operators.
* Write scripts to automate manual computer tasks.
* Debug and analyze wired and wireless networking issues.
* Promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures.
* Use basic hand tools to replace and repair electro-mechanical assemblies.
* Support on-site production lines as well as test stations at local contract manufacturers.
A day in the life
This is a sustaining support engineering role which focuses on the maintenance of test systems used throughout the manufacturing process. We want to reduce downtime. The engineer may be the first line of defense on high severity tickets. It requires a fundamental amount of technical knowhow across a breadth of disciplines: electrical, mechanical, software, and information technology (computers and networking). There is also some data analysis required to understand problems better. Work can range from reviewing test results, to documentation updates, to replacing parts on test systems, to reinstalling applications onto the test computers, etc.
About the team
The Manufacturing Test and Controls (MTAC) Product Sustaining and Support Engineering (PSSE) team owns test engineering transition of all products in near-beta-exit status, standardization, documentation, safety and training requirements. Additionally, it leads continuous improvement programs for enhanced yield and productivity, coordinate cross-site knowledge transfer during geographical expansions, and acts as Point Of Contact (POC) for Keep The Lights On (KTLO) activities on all GA products. This team prioritizes the rapid response and consistency.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* 4 year degree in engineering or 2 year technical degree with 2+ years of relevant work experience.
* Solid working knowledge of basic electrical equipment, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
* Capability to read and interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
* Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
* Ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
* Experience with Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
* Knowledge and/or working experience with networking and wireless computer systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor Degree with a focus in an electrical or mechatronics field.
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Experience with remote computer operations, such as via OpenSSH.
* Functional knowledge of one or more high level programming languages.
* Experience writing and using LabVIEW/TestStand, Python, Linux shell scripting, or equivalent languages and user interfaces.
* Experience troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) hardware.
* Experience using SQL for basic data extraction and examination.
