Senior Business Analyst, AvSec
DESCRIPTION
The Amazon Aviation Security (AvSec) team is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Senior Business Analyst. In this critical role, you will utilize broad technical skills to develop data visualization tools, build automated solutions, and convert data into actionable insights that drive business decision making and process improvement. The Senior Business Analyst will leverage a variety of data platforms, sources, and analytical tools to provide timely, meaningful, and consumable information to the AvSec network. They will build deep contextual and domain knowledge to ensure data quality. This role requires a self-starter with strong data analytical skills, a keen attention to detail and good track record of hitting deadlines. A successful candidate will have the ability to tackle multiple requests and efficiently execute deliverables.
Key job responsibilities
• Interact with internal and external customers to understand business requirements
• Data mining and modeling through multiple platforms (Advanced Excel, QuickSight, SQL, and MySQL)
• Provide data management processes such as accessing raw data feeds, building queries and macros, writing VBA code, organizing data, and designing reports that present status-at-a-glance visualization for business performance
• Design, prepare, report, and interpret large sets of data with accompanying business recommendations, enabling stakeholders to make effective decisions
• Building and managing related key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure, control, and benchmark reporting processes with a high level of accuracy
• Monitoring existing metrics, building new metrics, and partnering with internal teams to identify process and system improvement opportunities
• Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment given high levels of autonomy and responsibility
• Innovating to improve customer experience
• Ability to travel domestically or internationally up to 25% of the time.
Eligibility Requirements
• This role is regulated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and may be subject to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements. Successful candidates must, therefore, complete all screenings prescribed by the TSA and the U.S. CBP.
• Individuals hired into this position will have unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA). For this reason, eligibility for this role will be limited to individuals who pass a security screening, as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and TSA (as applicable).
• This position may be subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing. Federal law requires Amazon to determine an applicant's history of DOT drug and/or alcohol violation(s) or refusal(s) to test before hiring applicant into a safety-sensitive position.
• This position requires an employee’s full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute their job duties to ensure the safety and security of Amazon AIR personnel, third-party contractors, Airport personnel, cargo, and equipment. This position is therefore designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and, where permitted, post-hire drug testing.
A day in the life
The successful candidate will collaborate with AvSec team leaders to identify business issues, gather and analyze data, and propose data-driven solutions. This role will interface with business stakeholders to discover and validate data requirements, and technical stakeholders to validate these requirements are feasible and scalable. The Senior Business Analyst will work within the Strategy & Performance team and will collaborate with peers on various phases of project management.

The Amazon AvSec team is responsible for regulatory compliance, security, and loss prevention across Amazon’s aviation operations. The organization has four core pillars: Security Management Systems, Programs, Security Operations, and Credentialing. The organization is committed to identifying and mitigating risk to people, Amazon assets, the Amazon brand, and regulatory compliance through developing, implementing, and continuously improving best-in-class aviation security procedures, standards, and guardrails between which Amazon operates. By supporting our customer teams across Amazon’s aviation operations to implement process improvements, mitigate risk, resolve equipment issues, and implement new processes to improve performance, AvSec contributes to safe and secure air cargo transportation for our customers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- 3+ years of writing SQL queries and creating business intelligence reports using Tableau, Power BI experience
- Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights
- Experience with Excel
- Experience with SQL
- Experience making business recommendations and influencing stakeholders
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Math, Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar field
- Advanced SQL skills
- Experience communicating across all levels of management, peers, and customers
- Analyst/Project Management experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $106,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
