DESCRIPTION
Amazon Shopping Video (ASV) is a new strategic program in Amazon Advertising that leverages the potential of video to help millions of customers find product inspiration through videos. ASV is seeking an exceptionally skilled and enthusiastic senior software engineer to help accomplish our mission!
At the ASV Distribution team, we are looking for a leader to design, lead and build E2E video experiences (from personalized video recommendations to low-latency rendering and responsive, modern CX). In this role, you'll have significant influence on our technical direction and engineering practices by not just being the tech-lead for the team, but step up as an adviser to the broader ASV Organization. In this role, you will lead and work in niche areas like livestreaming, chat and video commerce where you will have the opportunity to innovate solving technical problems that are unique and rewarding. This is an excellent opportunity for a high-judgment senior engineer who likes to deliver in a fast-paced environment to demonstrate impact and make key architectural decisions that will enable the explosive growth of video in Amazon.
Key job responsibilities
- Responsible for design and implementation of systems that handle hundreds of thousands of transactions/sec.
- Work with Applied Scientists bringing novel algorithms to life, Product Managers, Junior Engineers, UX Designers and function as a quarterback for the team.
- Work on a wide breadth of tech (optimize video recommendations, build low-latency rendering systems and responsive, modern CX)
- Own the tech roadmap for ASV Distribution team. Build and maintain 3-year tech vision for the team.
- Optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
A day in the life
You'll work with a cross-disciplinary team to design and implement Video experiences. You'll tackle complex integration challenges, optimize system performance, and guide junior engineers in best practices. You'll act as a quarterback for the team guiding and advising your team and leaders on a day-to-day basis.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 7+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 7+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
