DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an Applied Science Manager to join the Forecasting Science team in the Worldwide Capacity Planning org. This role leads both the science and engineering efforts to design and implement innovative and automated end-to-end forecasting solutions to support planning, and address critical demand challenges and service quality metrics.

In this role you have the opportunity to work on a variety of Machine Learning and engineering challenges, and be given the flexibility to continually learn new skills. You will also collaborate with scientists and other multiple partner teams (Product, Engineering).


Key job responsibilities

- Define and execute the scientific vision and roadmap for the team.
- Deliver solutions to the core business problems, through the leadership in problem-solving, development of algorithms, new frameworks or systems, and so on, and influencing business partners.
- Establish scientific culture and standards for all the scientists (publication, best practices, reviews, etc.).
- Mentor and develop scientists to enhance the team’s talent and expand the impact of the work.

About the team
Worldwide Capacity Planning optimizes capacity across operations sites that help minimize customer wait time and route customers to the associate who can best resolve their issue, on the first contact. We build forecasting models and optimization tools that help predict the hourly capacity requirement, including when there are new device or game launches, or when there is a special event, such as Prime Day.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- PhD or equivalent Master's Degree plus 5+ years of experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics with specialization in statistical modeling, and machine learning.
- 2+ years of management experience leading a team of scientists or machine learning engineers.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java
- Experience with Time Series Modeling and/or Predictive Modeling techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Expertise on a broad range of machine learning methods, building machine learning models for business applications.
- Excellent problem-solving ability. Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment.
- Track record of scientific publications.
- Scientific thinking and the ability to invent, a track record of thoughtful leadership and contributions that have advanced the field.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
