Sr. Software Dev Manager, Vulnerability Management Solutions Engineering (VMSE)
DESCRIPTION
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Austin, TX, USA
Defensive Security Solutions Asset Discovery and Scanning is changing the way we do incident response and vulnerability management at scale. Through custom solutions for asset scanning, we are changing how vulnerability management achieves security outcomes for Amazon’s retail systems. Through our efforts, we are creating new software frameworks and products that are used for discovering and detecting vulnerabilities across host, images, and containers for all of Amazon. Unlike traditional vulnerability management programs that have a well define set of assets, protocols, and approaches for managing a set of IT solutions – we have the highest scale, most dynamic, and most diverse system capabilities that require customized solutions.
We are looking for a Sr. Software Development Manager to drive our mission to scan all hosts, images, and containers all day, every day! Further, we need a technically deep manager who has a knack for security solutions, and a desire to get into the details of software architectures. In this role, the Sr. Software Development Manager will get to influence Amazon’s efforts in host agent development, custom detection creation, and the overall strategy for how we scan for vulnerabilities across Amazon retail systems. Plus, what this Sr. Software Development Manager impacts has visibility to top security executives at Amazon – as it relates to scanning and keeping Amazon systems secure. If you like high scale, technical hard problems, high impact, and executive visibility – this is your job
Key job responsibilities
In this role you will...
1. As a leader of managers, you will coach, grow, and build a high-performing organization of Software Development Engineers, Security Engineers, and Technical Program Managers. Together, you will achieve a 100% scanning visibility of all Amazon retail compute assets.
2. Using your technical prowess, you will work across multiple AWS service teams, retail teams, and vulnerability management teams to create and install scanning software to meet security goals and outcomes.
3. You will define your scanning and detection product strategy, operational excellence, performance measures, and north star vision that your teams will build to. You will execute that vision.
4. Due to your impact, you will work with your leadership chain to participate in monthly and quarterly executive reviews of scanning and patching progress for hosts, images, and containers. You will be the single threaded owner, responsible for reporting on how you are making Amazon secure for customers.
5. Through your influence, you will improve how your teams do security, build products, and make peer organizations successful in their security missions.
6. Last, you will establish a high bar and relentlessly improve software design, operations, and engineering processes to delight security leaders and teams.
A day in the life
Your day will start with the daily scanning and visibility status review. You will triage your teams to work on solving emergent issues in the scanning infrastructure to meet the daily 100% target of all assets scanned.
The team is located in Austin, Texas. You will have three managers who conduct daily software operations and development for host, remote, image, and container scanning. You will have technical programs managers, and security engineers at your disposal to help you drive broad security programs.
Following this, you will conduct your internal business reviews of your teams, conduct weekly 1x1s, and ensure your teams are set up for success.
Then as time permits you will meet with other senior leaders across Amazon Retail and AWS to move your scanning software forward as needed to meet security objectives. Through this process you will be invited to several technical design reviews to review upcoming solutions to thorny security problems.
