At Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on earth. To get there, we need exceptional people. Amazon is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to join the Global Procurement Organization (GPO) Strategy, Innovation & Engagement (SI&E), Business Intelligence (BI) team.

The Global Procurement Organization (GPO) is the single channel for Amazon Stores globally that creates, delivers and maintains core procurement capabilities while executing best-in-class S2P policies, processes and digital solutions. The pillar drives efficiency, control & compliance, and delivers an user and supplier-centric procurement experience consistently across teams, businesses and regions.

A Business Intelligence Engineer should be able to cope with a fast pace environment, work on multiple deliverables and in parallel, be comfortable with prioritizing efficiently and communicating progress and blockers in an effective manner.

This role will support our Global Procurement Central Services (GPCS) pillar. GPCS has a wide range of responsibilities in support of consumables management and overall end-to-end purchasing process across Amazon Stores Operations.

This is a highly visible role, supporting critical technology and working on highly complex projects at both strategic and tactical levels. Overall, the BIE will own tying it all together for leadership via Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly Business Review reporting.

Key job responsibilities
• Manage a portfolio of BI solutions related to GPCS' performance management. This includes working with leadership to maintain a pipeline of high-impact projects. BIE will communicate effectively progress and blockers with the project team and sponsors.
• Support daily ordering of $5B+/year in consumable items (packaging and others) per year to support 1k+ Middle Mile sites and Fulfillment Centers globally. This includes demand planning, ordering, inventory tracking, requisitioning, purchase order and invoice management.
• Support our Shared Services and Compliance teams in charge of managing the vendor onboarding and the ordering (Purchase Requisition to Purchase Order) cycle for ~1M yearly transactions across $40B in spending while ensuring adherence to all procurement policies and standard work.
• Identify high impact business problems and present written recommendations on solutions that will drive execution excellence.
• Develop ETL jobs and analytical layers that require in depth knowledge in scripting and OLAP concepts.
• Develop optimized scripts and visualizations that are fast and easy to comprehend.
• Adopt existing best practices or contribute to improving them; solution design, development, validation and documentation practices.

A day in the life

In light of this scope, a Business Intelligence Engineer manages requirements from a large number of diverse customers, across functional groups, and actives those groups to action through thought leadership and application of innovative supply chain strategies.

A successful BIE raises the bar on Amazon's writing, and data-driven, culture by identifying key requirements and producing data, in a timely fashion, needed to advance high-volume decision making. Develops strong networks and partnerships across organizations, and maintains them by keeping customers and stakeholders up to date.

GPO BI enables metric-driven capabilities for the Procurement leaders through secure, performant, scalable & sustainable reporting & analysis products. We make the data speak. Providing Amazon-standard customer experience is in our core. We build trust with leaders and provide analysis they need and we do that on a timely and top-quality manner.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of professional or military experience
- 5+ years of SQL experience
- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
