Bldg System Sustainability Mgr, GESSA Materials and Environment

We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and results-driven Technical Program Manager to join our Global Engineering Services - Sustainability & Automation team. This role will spearhead our efforts to decarbonize Amazon's operational infrastructure, with a particular focus on Material Handling Equipment (MHE) systems Scope 2 and 3 reduction. This role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to influence cross-functional teams, and a passion for driving Amazon's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, external suppliers, and industry partners to align priorities and ensure the delivery of key milestones that support Amazon's Climate Pledge goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Key job responsibilities
Strategy Development and Implementation:
o Identify key opportunities for emissions reduction and prioritize initiatives based on potential impact and feasibility. Includes Scope 2 and 3 impacts.
Sustainability:
o Develop and maintain a comprehensive carbon accounting framework for MHE systems, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of Scope 3 emissions.
o Develop and implement engineering design changes in MHE systems for energy efficiency measures.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
o Work closely with internal teams including Worldwide Operations Sustainability (WWOS), Global Procurement Organization (GPO), and Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) to ensure alignment of sustainability initiatives.
o Engage with Product Development, Engineering, and Operations teams to integrate sustainability considerations into new product designs and operational processes.
o Collaborate with Finance teams to develop business cases for sustainability initiatives and secure funding for key projects.
Innovation and Pilot Programs:
o Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and practices that could significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Amazon's operations in MHE space.
o Drive efficiency improvement requirements for MHE products.
o Writing and reviewing design and engineering specifications for technical assessment, testing and verification procedures and final validation. Including, safety checks, O&M and regulatory requirements.
o Develop scalable frameworks to expand successful pilots across Amazon's global network by working with vendors.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
o Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for sustainability initiatives, ensuring clear visibility into progress and impact.
o Create comprehensive reports and presentations for senior leadership, summarizing the outcomes and learnings from sustainability projects.
o Leverage data analytics to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks in Amazon's sustainability efforts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
- • 5+ years of experience in designing, engineering, operations, or a similar role involving material handling systems
- • Ability to understand full system development life cycle, energy-efficiency measures and automation.
- • Strong analytical skills with experience in carbon accounting and life cycle assessment methodologies
- • Excellent project management abilities with a track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives
- • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., MBA, M.S. in Sustainability or Environmental Engineering)
- • Professional certifications such as LEED AP, Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Energy Manager
- Knowledge of green building standards and sustainable design principles
- Experience working in or with the logistics, e-commerce, or manufacturing sectors
- Previous experience in a similar role within a large-scale fulfillment or distribution center MHE systems.
- Demonstrated success in driving sustainability improvements in large, complex organizations

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $197,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
