Data Engineer, Kuiper Intelligence Data Service
DESCRIPTION
Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of more than 3,000 satellites in low Earth orbit. Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
Project Kuiper is seeking a Data Engineer to join our team and help us build an enterprise grade data lake/mesh hybrid with the latest AWS data services. This role will be a key member of the Kuiper Enterprise Technology team. You will work closely with peers across all Kuiper teams, including hardware, software, supply chain, manufacturing, launch, facilities, finance, compliance, and HR. You will employ the right architecture to handle data, and support various analytics use cases including business reporting, production data pipeline, optimization models, statistical models, and simulations.
As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for architecture and engineering of data infrastructure across our systems of supply chain, development, production and test. You will provide analytical support for production optimization by managing data store, develop and track key performance indicators and help make data driven program decisions. This role will be designing and developing ingestion of data that will provide insights into our business health.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain data infrastructure including data modeling, ETL pipelines, and ongoing maintenance.
- Partner with product, operational, and technical teams to build data pipelines from a wide variety of sources using AWS big data technologies (Lake Formation, Glue, S3, MWAA, Lambda, etc.).
- Build a data dictionary, catalog and governance plan and manage and audit all of the registered data via mechanisms.
- Work with data consumers to provide and correlate the right data for business intelligence and machine learning use-cases.
- Develop automated solutions to minimize manual processes with focus on efficiency and scalability.
- Provide guidance on data stewardship for teams onboarding to the central data systems.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
- Experience working with SAP data, preferably SAP S/4 HANA and SAP ME on AWS cloud
- Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer with a track record of building data solutions from the ground up
- An effective multi-tasker who navigates a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with grace and efficiency.
- Excellent at creating and maintaining working relationships across all levels and disciplines, receptive to feedback and input from others, and quick to apply changes.
- Work with internal subject matter experts to gather information, synthesize business and technical concepts, build strategic business metrics, and write original content that drives decision-making at the highest levels of the organization.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
