Software Development Engineer - Open Source Program Office, Open Source Program Office
DESCRIPTION
Amazon Web Services is the largest consumer cloud offering in the world, powering cutting edge science, rapidly growing start-ups and industry-leading companies.
Amazon's Open Source Program Office (OSPO) is hiring for an Open Source Software Development Engineer. You will join the team that is developing tooling and guidance for Open Source usage and project development for teams across Amazon.
The OSPO is accountable for everything related to Amazon’s consumption, usage, and distribution of open source software. We work closely with legal on licensing and compliance issues and we build the tools and processes that help engineers across Amazon build and deploy open source software. We partner with Amazon’s Builder tools organization to ensure open source software is available for use with as little friction as possible.
We are looking for a software development engineer to assist us in this mission.
Amazon has been with Open Source for a long time – a center for Perl development since the early days and a poster child for the use of Linux across the Enterprise in 2001 (when that was a shocking notion). Contributions have grown since 2007 and now we contribute to OpenSearch, Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, OpenJDK, PostgreSQL, Rust, and the Linux kernel, plus many, many others. We also host our own Open Source projects – recent examples are Firecracker, Corretto, and Babelfish.
As a technical leader, you will have a broad role teaching teams how they can be more active contributors to some of the open source projects upon which they depend and assisting product managers and engineering managers in crafting their strategies and plans for the open-sourcing of new projects.
As a technical leader, you provide continuing services to our product and service team partners, helping them to evaluate the health of open source projects that they have started and helping them to define their success criteria and to measure how they are doing.
