The Aurora organization is looking for an expert in performance engineering to deliver the optimization of open source and cloud native databases. You will build upon AWS’ advanced infrastructure innovations in compute, storage, networking and deliver software optimizations that fully exploits the cloud capabilities.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services

Key job responsibilities
By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to lead the innovation and deliver high performing database releases that power Aurora’s performance. As a senior engineer of the Aurora Performance Engineering Team, you will be tasked to lead and participate in efforts around performance bottleneck analysis, improvements in software driven by new hardware, benchmarking efforts, automated performance regression testing, workload optimizations and capacity sizing. You will play an instrumental role in driving the performance roadmap to deliver cost-effective and scalable database services. In this role you will use and further develop your deep knowledge in areas including experiment design, implementation, and data analysis. You will innovate using machine learning techniques to understand customer workload patterns and identify specific optimizations to improve overall application performance.

You will work with the Aurora engineering teams and customers to analyze workloads and engineer solutions to drive performance improvements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
