System Development Engineer-I, Amazon
DESCRIPTION
The role offers an opportunity to tackle complex technical challenges, work with diverse customers worldwide, and engage in a dynamic, varied work environment. You will be required to deeply understand the technology landscape and evaluate the use of new technologies. As an influential member of the team, you will collaborate with peers and senior leaders to define and refine the standards for operational excellence across JP Payment Products. You will consistently address abstract issues spanning multiple functional areas, driving your team to pursue scalable improvements across other teams, services, and platforms.
Key job responsibilities
- You will handle incoming support tickets, you are able to troubleshoot, research the root cause of problems, and thoroughly resolve defects
- You will provide software support in staging and production environments, develop tools to aid operations and maintenance, and generate system and support status reports.
- You maintain SLA’s through the implementation of proactive issue detection and reporting.
- You will read and understand complex application code and make code fixes to resolve support issues
- You will work on operations and maintenance driven coding projects, primarily using Ruby, Rails, Java, Python, shell scripts, AWS, and web technologies.
- You may create or have responsibility to improve or invent small tools or applications.
- You will collaborate with the development teams to hand off or take over active support issues, and you will contribute to building a team-specific knowledge base and skill set.
- You work effectively with customers and/or internal partners to understand business impacts and identify any opportunities/problems arising from technical decisions.
- You participate in team design, scoping and prioritization discussions. You seek to learn the business context and technologies behind your team’s system implementations
About the team
Amazon Payments in Japan (JPP) manages payments for the JP Stores business through payment acceptance, COP, and the paying customer experience for both credit cards and non-card payments. The payment instruments include all Amazon branded payment products, such as, the co-branded Credit Cards (CBCC), Shop with Points (SWP), and the suite of Gift Cards (GC). JPP is a portfolio of services with very successful merchant and marketplace integrations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering
- 2+ years of DevOps or SysOps in a large-scale software development environment experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of best practices for software deployment
- Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis
