Senior Technical Program Manager, AFT Sortation

Amazon's global fulfillment business is one of the largest and most complex operations in the world. Our technologically advanced warehouses are at the center. They form the invisible back half of Amazon that magically turns your click of a button into a product at your door. Amazon Sortation Technologies are a key part of that solution, enabling the flow of inventory into and out of warehouses and the consolidation of items for a shipment.
We're seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to drive the delivery of our products and help build the next-generation of our services. In this role you will be responsible for scoping and delivering large projects end-to-end. These responsibilities include collection of business and systems requirements from internal and external customers, writing specifications, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing production launches. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts between internal teams and external stakeholders. You will be expected to make appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, and clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes.
The right candidate will have a strong program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects, and will have a well-rounded highly technical background as will need to interact with developers on daily basis, discussing technical trade offs. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. As a Sr. TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential for success in this role.

About the team
Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon’s global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software, hardware, and data science solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want, when they want it.
Outbound Flow
AFT’s Outbound Flow team pairs data science with innovative technologies to optimize throughput within every Amazon fulfillment center. We deliver smiles for Amazon customers with safe, sustainable, cost-effective, on-time package deliveries.
The AFT Sortation Workcells team is responsible for sorting all the items within a shipment to the same container and send them for packing in an efficient and optimal way. This is accomplished using associate-driven Workcells and efficient distribution of work via a variety of Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
