Key job responsibilities
The AWS WAF and Shield team is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer for a team that develops and globally operates a highly available, low-latency distributed system that powers real-time Layer7 DDoS detections using methods such as behavioral analysis and machine learning, and mitigations such as client-side challenges.

- Model Amazon Leadership Principles around customers, operations, inclusion, and growth
- Design and build large components of the software architecture, product, or suite with significant business impact
- Make architectural and design decisions in partnership with stakeholders
- Understand owned products deeply to facilitate technical discussions
- Operate the service globally in all AWS regions working with the team
- Manage, communicate, and mitigate risks proactively and build consensus on complex technical and business issues

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with Scala and/or Rust

The base salary for this position ranges from $114,800/year up to $191,800/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
