Software Development Manager - Developer Tooling, Infrastructure and Code Management, Device OS

DESCRIPTION

The Device OS organization owns software solutions that run on Amazon Devices such as the Fire Tablets, Fire TV, and Amazon Echo. This team is responsible for the Developer Tooling, Infrastructure, and Code Management that enables developers across the company to track, develop, review, build, and test high quality software for these platforms.

As a Software Development Manager for this team, you will:

- Facilitate career development in your engineers. You will provide coaching and regular feedback to make them and the team more effective
- Influence strategy and roadmap through your technical and non-technical insights
- Dive into ambiguous problem spaces and meticulously distill out design choices, trade-offs, and priorities
- Instrument, monitor, and drive improvements through metrics on the success of your tools and services
- Actively experiment and prototype with novel technologies that improve the customer experience or solve business needs
- Participate in designing, prototyping, and building reliable and high-performance tools and services

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
