Want to play a critical role in delivering Amazon’s largest events? We’re hiring a software development manager to lead our Promotions Customer Experience team in Berlin! We own the experiences that help customers find great deals, whether on the Today’s Deals page or across homepage, search, detail page, cart and checkout. Our experiences are key to delivering on Amazon’s promise to bring customers the best prices, whether they are browsing for daily essentials or searching for a deal on Prime Day.

You’ll bring your unique perspective and background to drive innovation in one of the most high-profile customer experiences on Amazon and during our most visible events. Your team is responsible for the native AWS-based systems that provide promotions data to clients across Amazon’s retail website. These systems use machine learning and search technology to rank and filter millions of promotions so that customer see the deals most relevant to them.

A day in the life
Your first priority is your team. You’ll spend much of your time talking with engineers on your team, and helping them grow in their careers. You’re also responsible for their happiness, keeping you focused on morale and team events. Your job is to shield your team from the bad, and amplify the good.

Software Development Manager is a technical role. You’ll be expected to contribute to the technical vision of your team, including active participation in design review and planning for your teams technical sustainability. Your team’s architecture and operations is your responsibility.

Beyond tech, you’re responsible for your teams goals and business deliverables. You’ll coordinate the work of your team and communicate plans, progress, risks, and mitigations to leadership. You’ll build relationships with clients, partners, and dependencies to ensure you team delivers.

About the team
Amazon promotions are an integral part of the Amazon shopping experience and we are a key element of events like Prime Day. Our features are used by hundreds of millions of customers and we are responsible for the multi-billion dollar promotions business. We partner with teams throughout the Amazon ecosystem to optimize deal ingestion, to enhance classification and ranking of promotions, to expand discovery throughout the site, and to raise the bar for the best customer experience on mobile app, web, desktop.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services
- Experience managing engineers
- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience in engineering

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
