Transport Area Manager, Transportation Associate Programme (TAP)
DESCRIPTION
Operations is the beating heart of Amazon. This key part of our business makes sure we fulfil and dispatch orders efficiently so that our customers get their items on time. As a Transportation Area Manager, you will be responsible and accountable leader for a team of associates in a cluster within Germany.
You will own the operations and engagement of your shift with the aim to optimize associates' experience and performance in hand with load planning and efficiency, with a focus on safety.
This team is entrepreneurial, wear many hats, and work in a highly collaborative environment. • Find practical and simple solutions to complex problems without sacrificing quality or core functionality.
• Provide day-to-day support during the rollout/implementation of newer systems/processes and gather feedback.
• Communicate daily metrics and report exception.
• Act as the responsible and accountable person in respect of the commercial road haulage permit.
• Prepare and participate in Operations daily calls to communicate your team's performance to Transportation Operations Management (TOM) leadership.
• Ensure fleet and driver compliance through active monitoring and reporting.
• Travel within your cluster.
A day in the life
You’ll work on a shift pattern at one of our sites, making sure it is as productive as it can be. Your main focus will be to own and drive a culture of safety and uphold quality and shift performance standards. You’ll also oversee process improvements within your area and drive implementation. A typical day is varied, including everything from routine team management and daily operational responsibilities to process improvement and wide-scale operational contingency tasks. You’ll also be a role model and mentor to new managers.
Working Schedules
Amazon facilities operate at mostly 27/7 and therefore as a Transport Area Manager your working schedules may vary and span across day shifts, Mid shifts as well as night shift. Also due to the business needs must be flexible to work weekends.
Location & Business travel
As a Transport Manager you will require to travel across 4 Amazon facilities in Dortmund area (DTM cluster) and more specifically in (DTM1, DTM2, PAD1, DTM9 and PAD1). Therefore, you are expected share time between the office and the facilities (typically 1-2 days in the office and then work from each facility for the remaining of the week). Depending on operational needs you might need to visit multiple sites within the day hence you must be flexible to start and finish your working day from different locations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Relevant experience in leading a busy and large-scale transport operation within a growing and rapidly scaling business.
• Willingness to obtain a Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). Amazon will fund the certification.
• Relevant experience in people management.
• A degree
• Relevant experience with performance metrics and process improvement
• Relevant experience developing creative and scalable solutions independently, and drive them from ideation to successful completion.
• Advanced proficiency in written and verbal English and German
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s Degree or similar education in Operations Research, Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, Economics, Business Administration, or a similar related discipline.
• Valid Transport Manager CPC qualification according to VERORDNUNG (EG) No. 1071/2009.
• Experience with a contingent workforce during peak seasons.
• Experience of being named on a Commercial road haulage permit within the Transport industry.
