Design and Construction Manager
DESCRIPTION
As a Construction Manager (CM) you will be part of the Design and Construction (D&C) team within Amazon Global Engineering services, with the long-term vision of shaping the future of the Construction Industry. As a CM, you are a customer-obsessed leader in the Amazon construction process. You are integral in implementing the facility network infrastructure, including sortation centers, delivery stations, and auxiliary buildings supporting those facilities. The construction projects include new builds, retrofits, portfolio improvements and expansions. You are required to perform detailed deep dive reviews of job budgets and schedules to identify and resolve discrepancies that may include contractor bid packages.
You will partner with internal customers and external stakeholders to earn their trust and engage as a team to deliver results. You must ensure information is communicated to internal and external stakeholders in an effective and timely manner. Some key competencies of this position include; insist on the highest standards, ensure contracted resources deliver work that meets duration and quality targets, coach developers, design engineers, contractors during the project duration, seek better ways to serve Amazon customers, influence internal stakeholders while holding them accountable for their actions, ensure all internal and external team members maintain proposed schedules and budgets, help to invent and simplify innovative solutions that allow for improved processes and results, while working on multiple projects in various locations. In this senior role, you will oversee and support other Amazon Construction Managers.
This opportunity combines construction, engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management. The Senior Construction Manager position includes approximately 40% travel within assigned country/region.

Key job responsibilities
• Supervise the implementation and management of Amazon’s safety programs and standards with the entire project team
• Manage multiple mid and large-sized projects simultaneously
• Ensure that the skills and competencies of contract labor are appropriate to undertake the work
• Operate independently in the assigned region, interacting with leadership and stakeholders to resolve issues
• Act as an Amazon internal construction especialist, as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Construction for the D&C Team
• Comprehensively forecast the project budget and schedule and advise Amazon stakeholders on the impact of timing , cost, and permitting changes
• Identify and solve for factors that may impede a successful project hand-over to Amazon stakeholders
• Interface and coordinate with the authorities that have jurisdiction on the project to ensure regulatory compliance
• Comprehensive and timely communication with all internal and external stakeholders
• Support Design and Construction team in the continuous improvements of its costs, quality, H&S and sustainability processes and mechanisms.
A day in the life
Each day you will act as an owner within the Design and Construction team to ensure the safe, on-time and in-budget execution of Amazon construction projects. Daily tasks may be comprised of:
• Site management: coordination of internal/external stakeholders on project status and projected changes.
• Ensure consultants, developers and contractors are meeting contractual obligations
• Seek sustainable, environmentally-friendly solutions throughout the construction process while implementing Amazon’s environmentally friendly building practices
• Record and update schedule, budget, and other key developments
• Negotiate contract terms with vendors while driving partners to meet or exceed agreed-to schedules and budgets
• Participate in weekly project´s meetings and provide input on root causes and corrective actions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or comparable field or 2 years Amazon experience
- Experience as an engineer and construction manager
- Experience as a facilities manager or similar
- Project Management experience from design phase through implementation and operation
- Experience negotiating construction, procurement and labour contracts
- Ability to lead and manage a team, including, coaching and disciplinary actions, as needed
- Ability to travel throughout France and EU up to 40% of the time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in engineering or construction management
- Ability to effectively communicate Amazon requirements to various audiences (e.g. senior management, peers, public officials, vendors, etc.)
- French, German, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
