DESCRIPTION
Do you want to play a role in building new solutions to power the scientific breakthroughs of tomorrow? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an innovative builder with deep experience in building secure and compliant research environments to join the U.S. Higher Education Research team and guide go-to-market strategy and solution development for academic research. The Sr. Business Development Manager (BDM), Secure Research will collaborate closely with higher education customers, AWS service teams, and AWS partners to help academic researchers build and migrate research workloads securely in the cloud. Across academic disciplines, research compliance concerns are driving research teams and those supporting them to consider the cloud as not only an environment that speeds the time to science and allows for research collaboration on a global scale, but that also allows that research to be secure and compliant. The Sr. BDM, Secure Research will develop AWS offerings that enable Research IT teams to support academic research in this ever-evolving landscape, and to anticipate both researcher needs and future security concerns and compliance requirements.

A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to analyze this complex market and regulatory landscape, prioritize solutions based on market need, and drive alignment across internal and external stakeholders to advance solution development. The ideal candidate will have an established history of building and managing secure and compliant research environments, and a clear track-record of delivering results. The ability to connect AWS technology solutions to customer needs is critical to a Business Development Manager in the Research Vertical; you should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about market forces shaping academic research in the U.S., and how AWS can support institutions and researchers in driving innovation to support current and future research.

Key job responsibilities
* Serve as a highly credible expert on using cloud technologies to support academic research, including compliance, data, and compute needs in higher education
* Analyze trends and market developments in research computing to guide and prioritize solution development
* Develop repeatable solutions, offerings, frameworks, and models that help academic research customers adopt AWS native services and/or Partner offerings
* Drive alignment on the AWS Academic Research strategy, in collaboration with internal stakeholders in Global markets and other Research Verticals
* Support AWS Account teams in identifying, developing, and winning business with Research IT teams in higher education
* Provide thought leadership through events, white papers, blogs, and social media to capture customer mind-share in the life sciences domain
* ~30% travel to customer sites, partner engagements, and/or conferences

The U.S. Higher Education Research Vertical team is a team of industry-experienced subject matter experts who care deeply about impacting higher education's research mission through the implementation of AWS technologies and solutions. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience
- 6+ years of professional or military experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience interpreting data and making business recommendations
- Experience identifying, negotiating, and executing complex legal agreements

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
