Data Engineer II, Infrastructure Science

Job ID: 2805288 | Amazon Web Services, Inc.

DESCRIPTION

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Infrastructure Science builds world-class machine learning power models, and software enabled backstops to ensure the health of our thermal and electrical infrastructure at high infrastructure utilization.

As a Data Engineer, you will work on our Science team and partner closely with other Data Engineers, Data Scientists, BIEs, Technical Program Managers, and Software teams to create data pipelines that are used to optimize power, cooling, and supply chain decisions for AWS Infrastructure. You will be responsible for synthesizing data across our organization in a data warehouse environment. This job is able to be located in Seattle, SJC, or DC.

You have a passion for Excellence. You have a proven track record of building the right Data Engineering solutions that scale, provide high availability, and require minimal maintenance. You write code that is clean, readable, and straight forward.

You do whatever it takes to add value. You understand the importance of speed in business and have the technical ability to perform in a fast passed environment. You care passionately about your stakeholders and autonomously provide them the data they need.

You have good business and communication skills to be able to work with product owners to understand key business questions, and to build data sets that answer those questions.

You are comfortable juggling competing priorities and handling ambiguity. You thrive in an agile and fast-paced environment on highly visible projects and initiatives.

A day in the life
Your week will begin with a standup meeting to discuss the ongoing work, priorities, and blockers. From there you will work to deploy data pipelines or meet with stakeholders to intake new projects or initiatives. You will constantly collaborate with other engineers to deploy and maintain your solutions. Your work will contribute to data center operations, AWS inventory decisions, network design, and ensure AWS data center availability. Our team values personal growth, Friday’s are blocked from meetings to free up your time for learning new skills and tech. Our team members are located in Seattle, Denver, California, and Virginia.
