As a Software Engineering Manager at Amazon, you will leverage your exceptional technical expertise and strong leadership abilities to drive the development of mission-critical software systems. Guiding cross-functional engineering teams, you will deliver innovative solutions that delight Amazon's customers worldwide. Your responsibilities will span both technical leadership and people management.
You will contribute hands-on by architecting scalable, high-performance systems and writing code to solve complex problems. Providing technical direction and coaching, you will ensure your engineers continuously improve their skills and deliver quality, optimized solutions. Thriving in a fast-paced, metrics-driven culture, you will manage ambitious project timelines and budgets while maintaining a relentless focus on customer obsession.
Key job responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and collaborate with teams to plan and execute engineering programs, software architecture, product policy, and user experience improvements.
* Contribute to development of requirements definition, design, implementation, unit testing, metrics, and integration to ensure quality deliverables.
* Work with Technical Program Managers on release roadmaps and ensure the team is well positioned to support programs.
* Improve efficiency and implement automation/tools to guide future software efforts.
* Set expectations with individuals based on their level and role, meet regularly to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
