DESCRIPTION

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Legal team is seeking a talented and experienced attorney with energy understanding and interest to support AWS’s continued work to build and maintain the world’s largest corporate renewable energy portfolio, solve cutting edge energy and carbon challenges, and more. Amazon, including AWS, co-founded The Climate Pledge and committed to powering its global operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030 and reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2040 – ten years ahead of the Paris Climate Agreement.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in drafting legal documents and an interest in counseling clients on energy supply/transmission and regulatory matters, and negotiating energy-related agreements. Direct experience supporting clean energy or utility agreements is a plus.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology and renewable energy, enjoys being continually challenged, and demonstrates sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.

Some travel, domestic and international, may be required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Experience representing corporate customers in contract negotiations.
- Experience drafting legal documents requiring custom terms.
- Experience with renewable energy projects, grid connection agreements, or working with utilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- A mix of law firm and in-house experience at an energy company or at a corporation with large energy needs is a plus.
- Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.
- Excited and passionate about energy, sustainability, and innovating on behalf of our customers.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
