Amazon is looking for a talented and experienced attorney to join Amazon’s Sustainability Legal team as we work on some of the most ambitious sustainability challenges on the planet. In this role, you’ll support Amazon’s Sustainability team with its regulatory ESG reporting and strategy. With new mandatory ESG reporting requirements being considered and adopted in many parts of the world, including the EU, UK and US, you will support the teams at Amazon who are working to develop new approaches and capabilities to meet those challenges and navigate this dynamic reporting environment.

As part of this role, you will be working alongside many different Amazon teams, including the global Sustainability team, Public Policy, Accounting, Finance and others, on our programmatic efforts to report on our ESG initiatives and metrics amidst quickly evolving ESG disclosure requirements. You will be a key stakeholder and strategic advisor as Amazon businesses prepare for upcoming ESG reporting obligations at Amazon scale. You will collaborate on and provide support for other initiatives and legal issues related to Amazon’s ESG and sustainability reporting strategy and regulatory compliance regarding mandatory ESG reporting requirements.

Key job responsibilities
• Strategically advising and partnering with Sustainability leaders to develop, shape and scale Amazon’s ESG reporting and disclosures program, processes and tools as Amazon continues to grow its business and operations, including identifying and implementing process improvements and advising on technology-enabled solutions;

• Advising on Amazon’s ESG reporting strategy and approach under current and emerging sustainability reporting regulations and requirements;

• Working with the Sustainability, Finance, Accounting and Legal teams to develop, prepare and draft Amazon’s regulatory ESG reporting and disclosures;

• Advising on internal assessments and mapping exercises needed to prepare and inform disclosures;

• Providing guidance and forming advocacy positions on ESG reporting standards, such as ESRS and ISSB;

• Counseling on current and emerging sustainability and ESG reporting requirements and policy engagement strategies;

• Advising on and managing internal processes and practices to support ESG-related governance requirements and disclosure controls and procedures;

• Developing and implementing internal processes to meet third-party assurance and verification requirements; and

• Engaging with internal and external stakeholders on ESG reporting and disclosures.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Relevant experience working on ESG reporting and/or public company reporting and corporate governance
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- A mix of law firm and in-house experience with large, multinational, complex companies advising on ESG and sustainability reporting
- Experience working with regulators and public policy experts on proposed legislation and regulations
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations
- Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
- Hands-on project management experience, including excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage and prioritize a large number of projects and attention to detail
- Great judgment, common sense, enthusiasm and a good sense of humor

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
