In September 2011, Amazon opened a new fulfilment centre in Graben, close to Augsburg (Bavaria). With a size of 110,000 square metres or 17 football fields it is one of the largest fulfilment centres in Germany. It consists of six warehouses. It also has a direct connection to the logistics company DHL, allowing for exceptionally fast deliveries.
Augsburg
Shaped by the Romans over 2,000 years ago, Augsburg is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Now a bustling university town, it retains its medieval charm in the beautifully elaborate buildings dotted around the town.
The birthplace of business tycoon Jakob Fugger, composer Leopold Mozart and writer Bertolt Brecht – Augsburg has a rich cultural heritage. And located in southwest Bavaria, with Wurzberg to the north and Fussen to the south, it’s an ideal base for exploring the Romantic Road.
Wandering through the leafy town, you’ll find countless opportunities to immerse yourself in the local culture. The famous Augsburger Puppenkiste marionette theatre has shows running throughout the day. While the central Naturmuseum specialises in fossil exhibitions and a planetarium for budding astronomers. For those wanting to relax, the heart of the city boasts the Rathausplatz. This Renaissance style town square is lined with street cafes that are perfect for watching the world go by or even indulging in a slice of the Bavarian plum delicacy Zwetschgendatschi.
